Proposal engineering

The proposal engineer who builds the matrix

You turn a specification into a compliance matrix and a technical response. Most of your time is finding the datasheet page, not deciding what it means.

The work that disappears

Copying clauses. Finding the datasheet. Checking which revision. Confirming the certificate is still valid. Writing "Comply" four hundred times. That is most of the week, and none of it is engineering.

The work that remains

Reviewing the register for false positives. Reading the Partial lines and shaping the alternatives. Editing the draft so it sounds like your company. Deciding, with the senior engineers, what to do about the twelve open items. That is the week's engineering, and it now gets the week.

Trust

Every Comply has a page number. The first tender you spot-check all of them; by the third you spot-check twenty. The agent never writes Comply without a document, which is the property that lets you stop checking.
